Altered Canvas

Happy Sunday crafters!

Today I want to share with you my first ever altered canvas! It was for a swap I participated in at My Scrap Room.  We were to alter a 6" x 6" canvas on a wood frame and include in our design a space for a photo, ribbon and/or lace, flowers, and some bling.  Theme/ design/ colors were up to to us and our partners.  My partner was Sonia from California and she requested the design be simple yet elegant and in pink and brown tones.  So... here's what I came up with!

I also made a video show casing the details of my canvas...

I'll be back later with a video of the canvas Sonia sent to me! Soo excited!

Thanks for stopping by!

Card Share & A Sneak Peek!

Hey hey!

Ugh... been awhile... Life sometimes gets all crazy on you... Anyways! I have a card to share... It was for the weekly challenge on My Scrap Room.  I LOVE Gina's challenges! This week we were supposed to use the sketch below along with a few other requirements: banners had to be of fabric, use brads on the sides of the sentiment, use patterned paper, and no flowers (*gasp!*)!
I actually followed the sketch really closely... but I love how it turned out!
I cut up a pair of my old denim jeans to use on the banners and to anchor my sentiment, and I swear I was hyperventilating as I cut 'em! I've never, ever used my old clothes on ANY of my projects before - I think I have this "save it" mentality with my things... the "I'll use it someday" thoughts just absolutely plague me! I get it from my parents... Yes, yes... I blame them... haha! I KNEW that I'd never be able to fit these once beloved pair of jeans again - children just seem to make your hips get bigger! They'd fit, just not close. Ugh. They were my favorites. :( So sad.

I digress.  My card.  I used my jeans. Because when I looked at the little pad of 6" x 6" Basic Grey "Out of Print" paper... I knew that denim would be a PERFECT fabric to use!  So I did it. I sacrificed my old, unusable, favorite jeans.  I used a sheet of patterned paper and faux pleated it on the bottom portion.  I love how that turned out! I punched a scallop edge from a pinkish scrap piece of paper and layered that on top of the faux pleats.  The black satin ribbon was actually dyed with my Tim Holtz Black Soot distress ink and then added to the mix!  I took a piece of my jeans, backed it with some cardstock and die cut the whole thing using the Tim Holtz Styled Labels die.  Layer on my sentiment from a Hero Arts set and... voila! Turned out pretty nice, I think...

Oh! And a sneak peek at a swap I'm doing.  My first EVER doing this kind of project...
I'm sending this out in the mail today. After I make a video about it. Yay! But I'm not going to post about this until it reaches my partner, Sonia, first. I just LOOVE how this turned out! I really wanted to keep it! But I'm so excited to see what Sonia made as well!

Anyways, I'll catch you later crafters!

An altered jar & a video!

Hi again everyone!

Today I wanted to share an altered jar I made for this week's challenge at My Scrap Room!  There's a new challenge posted there every week with a chance to win a prize!  Although, to be eligible for the prize, you need to be a member there for at least a month and be active (posting pictures to the gallery, chatting, participating in events, etc.).  I haven't been a member there for a month yet, but I LOVE challenges, and so I still play along and post my creations! It's free to join the site and from there you can join in swaps, the challenges, and meet new friends!

Anyways... on to the project! I actually filmed my very first video showcasing my jar! Yay! It was quite an experience... I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it, but I do like the fact that you can get a lot of information and visuals squeezed into a relatively short amount of time (esp. compared to my last post! hahaha...) So, without further ado...

Hope you enjoyed & thanks a bunch for stopping by!

A Blog, A Swap, & Cards...

Hi & Hello!

First, thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm not entirely sure how this will turn out considering that I'm kind of new to this... but I love finding inspiration and learning new things by browsing other crafters' blogs, and so I figured, why not share the love? Maybe, someday, another fellow crafter will find inspiration from my creations!

That said, a little about me... I've been crafting pretty much my entire life. I've always LOVED paper... but I've tried other things: jewelry making, candle making, wood crafts, etc.  It wasn't until about 2006 that I was formally introduced to scrapbooking.  And then my collecting began... Looking back, I think that's mostly what I've done - collect.  It's only recently that I've actually started using what I've collected. And in searching for inspiration, I was introduced to a really huge crafting community! So, like I said earlier, this blog will serve as my little way of "giving back" the inspiration!

Soo... on to some projects!  This first project was for a swap I participated in at My Scrap Room. We were to make some ATCs (artist trading cards) with a vintage lady on it. These are how my ATCs turned out:

I really enjoyed making these and just love how they turned out! I used Graphic 45's "A Ladies' Diary" collection for the patterned paper and the vintage ladies.  I added some cream lace and a strip of 1/8" brown satin ribbon with a bow to the left side.  To the top right corner, I added a brown photo corner and a handmade brown satin ribbon flower.  From the flower I just have some beads and a heart charm dangling.  I added a little banner sentiment and inked all the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink (my favorite color so far!).  This swap was the very first time I created an ATC, and I've got to say that it's pretty addicting! They're a really nice, small size to work with, and a really great way to dive into swapping!

My second project is a pair of thank you cards:
This first card is a 4.25" x 4.25" square card.  The patterned paper is from K & Company's Jubilee collection (another collection that I absolutely adore!).  The stamps are from Inkadinkadoo's Nostalgia clear stamp set.  I heat embossed them with American Crafts Zing embossing powder in Chestnut.  The "thank you" sentiment is also embossed with EP 101's Psychedelic embossing powder.  It's such a pretty whitish color!  I used one of Tim Holtz's mini styled labels to cut out the sentiment and added some blue rhinestones to the sides.  I added some Prima flowers and twine, mounted the front to a kraft cardstock base, and called it done!  Then, because I really liked how this card came out, I decided to do a second one!
This card is also a square card, but it's a bit smaller at a 3.75" x 3.75" size.  I used the same kind of background paper as the first card along with the same sentiment (except I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink only).  I did, however, emboss the little bird and flower in the corners.  I used the American Crafts Chestnut powder for the branches and circle the bird is standing on, Tim Holtz's Distress embossing powder in Peeled Paint for the leaves, and EP 101's Pearlized Sapphire for the bird and flower.  I know there's a technique for using multiple colors of embossing powder - carefully pouring the different colors where you want them and then shaking them all off together - but when I stamped my images on my background paper in Versamark ink, I couldn't see them for the life of me! So I decided to try something else: I poured one color at a time over the entire image and just used a detailed brush to brush off the color I didn't want on certain parts of the image - and it worked perfectly! I was soo happy with the end product...

Anyways, sorry for the long first post... I hope, though, that if anything, you're inspired to do something crafty today! I'll be back before long with another project to share!

Thanks for stopping by!
